ABC AEROLINIEAS TAKES CONTROL OVER MEXICO
ABC Aerolíneas S.A. de C.V. (Interjet) – an airline which offers affordable flights from Mexico to 8 international destinations and between 25 domestic destinations – began to build out its airport location presence in 2005. This is a company that has revolutionised the Mexican airline industry – opening new business units at airports including service centres to provide maintenance services for other airlines.
Oracle’s Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (EPPM) enabled Interjet to develop a roadmap for generating projects and helped it meet the requirements of each domestic and international destination, operating station, and mechanical workshop, accelerating project development with all necessary controls
TIME IS MONEY IN THE AIRLINE BUSINESS
Interjet’s diverse range of new asset introductions requires coordination of project management capabilities, from project launches to tasks each department needs to perform, including the goals and schedules for all stages. It has addressed these needs through Oracle’s centralised EPPM solution.
ACCELERATED DECISION MAKING
Planning, building and operating vast hangars and aviation simulation centres in diverse locations across Mexico is a complex task – or, rather, thousands of complex tasks running concurrently and interdependently. Interjet’s deployment of Oracle Primavera has unified all the company’s information - and project progress data from external suppliers - in a single platform for one view of each project to accelerate decision-making. It has also enabled Interjet to reduce the average time needed to open a new airport destination. Oracle’s EPPM automatically generates preventive alerts for potential project delays, speeding detection and correction of errors that could result in delays.
The whole system was implemented and ten project managers fully trained in just eight weeks. It was on time and on budget, as have been all its projects since starting to use EPPM. From structuring work plans, to choosing critical routes and assigning the right staff to the right areas according to their expertise, Interjet has now automated all its core management processes.
MEETING GOALS AND DEADLINES
In a world where smarter decisions count, Interjet is building its competitive advantage almost daily. It uses Oracle roadmaps for generating projects and meeting the requirements of each mechanical workshop, maintenance facility and operating station.
“We’ve used Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management to manage 48 projects,”
says Carlos Núñez Brambila, Director, Project Office, ABC Aerolíneas S.A. de C.V. (Interjet).
“Oracle’s solution provides better analysis and control, and shows us each task’s progress as well as relationships between various tasks, so we can meet our goals and deadlines."
DOES IT WORK?
Airlines are hyper-dependent on reliability given the many regular and critical maintenance tasks that have to be planned around aircraft. A plane on the ground is a plane not making money.
